We all know one of "those" people. It's the person who just turns into a grumpy, crabby, bear when things don't go their way. Maybe it's because their favorite sports team lost. Maybe they got a flat tire. Maybe someone criticized their work. Maybe someone was cruel to them. But either way, we know a person who turns into a jerk when bad things happen.
I hate to be the one to break bad news, but here's the deal: That's just life on planet Earth!
Bad things are going to happen. Things that are out of our control. People will be unfair to us. They will even try to hurt us sometimes, whether it be emotionally, physically, professionally, etc. Our possessions will break, our health will fail, and bad things will happen. And we will have ZERO control over it!
Here's the good news: We DO have control over how we REACT to those things!
Zeno said, "You're feelings can scream. They still don't get to make the decision."
What he was saying is that we get to decide for ourselves how we feel about the things that happen to us. We can let them put us in a bad mood. Or we can look at them as just a thing that happened. We are responsible for our feelings about things. You, AND ONLY YOU, get to decide how you react to bad things happening. We can move forward with a smile on our face and see them as opportunities to grow, or we can wilt and wallow in defeat. But only one of these options is a productive one. Only one of these options keeps us moving in a positive direction. Only one of these has the ability to make other people's lives better in the process.
So the next time things don't go your way, don't let it ruin your whole day. View it as an opportunity to show resilience. Get out there and make the best of it! React well!
